Beyond Evil: Ep 2
Intro:
We start with the forensics team at the crime. The new victim was wrapped up like Ju-seon’s body was. We get a flashback to DS being arrested for Ju-Seon’s murder as a teen. While being arrested, he tells his dad that he didn’t do it, but the police tell his dad that there was conclusive evidence at the scene.
DS and JW are asking to be interrogated as they were the ones who found the bodies. The Chief comes to pick them up. The Chief asks why JW let DS lure him into playing his game. JW is surprised and questions if he was lured. The Chief tells him that he was lured. DS knows that in the future, other investigators will come questioning him about the body being found due to his history as a suspect. When this happens, DS will object to questioning unless they have a warrant. DS is very smart.
They all go out to eat, except JW, who just sits there cause he doesn’t like meat broth. The owner of the restaurant starts babbling about the new body. She mentions how it’s just like 20 years ago when that one boy, Dong-sik murdered the waitress and his sister. Dong-sik is just sitting there eating, and the Chief is trying to get her to stop talking. DS asks her for a refill of noodles, and she notices that it’s him. In this scene, the Chief is really weird so my quick prediction is that he was the one who originally arrested Dong-sik 20 years ago. DS asks JW if he’s having fun watching as he stayed around even though he doesn’t eat meat broth. JW says that he is only staying as he learned from Ji-hun that partners are supposed to stay together even off the clock.

Flashback: DS is being investigated and at the scene of the fingertips. He tells investigators that the fingertips aren’t his sisters as her nails were painted as the color of balsam flowers. Flashback ends.
DS is visiting his mom in hospice. Jin-muk (the grocery store owner) is there too. DS asks Jin-muk why he often visits his mom when he’s not even her son. Jin-muk says it’s because of her that he was able to open his store and wants to repay the kindness. DS tells him that he has worked hard and doesn’t need to have that burden. DS tells Jin-muk to take his daughter Min-Jeong somewhere nice. Jin-muk says that Min-Jeong doesn’t come home often. DS gives Min-Jeong a call and tells her to come home before he goes looking for her.
At some office, a lady is yelling and upset that DS appeared next to a dead body. She says he brings bad luck. The lady then turns around and we see our other Chief friend from the restaurant, Park Jeong-je. They are speculating if the corpse is from 20 years ago. Jeong-je seems a bit off. The lady apparently is his mother and she tells him to smile less.
Ji-Hwa our victim crimes investigator (Ji-hun’s sister) is scene analyzing the crime scene picture. It is noted that whoever is murdering the girls clean their shoes first then wrap their feet in a black plastic bag the ties a pink bow around it.
DS and JW are patrolling in the rain. DS pulls over to go help someone sitting in the rain. DS swaps shoes with the man cause his shoes are torn. It’s revealed that knows the man and tells JW to call his mom. JW goes to get a raincoat and handwarmer for the tongue man. DS and JW share a weird glance.
The gang is back at Jae-i’s restaurant. Ji-Hwa says that the body is not Yu-Yeon, but the MO is the same, so it’s not a copycat. The MO of wrapping the feet after cleaning was not disclosed to the media. Jae-I seems to be having a hard time.
JW’s father is visiting him and asks if he knew the body would be there. JW says it’s a coincidence but his father says there are no coincidences when it comes to JW. JW asks his dad if he thinks he killed him. His dad gets a weird look on his face. JW says a sting operation went wrong and his bait, a woman went missing. So does JW know the woman who was found? It seems so and his dad does too. His dad mentions that they will just call it a copycat case and have it closed so nobody will identify the woman. JW seems upset by this.
25 minutes in:
JW goes to Jeong-Je to ask for Yu-Yeon’s case file. Jeong-Je recalls precisely where the case file is. A lot of these characters are suspicious. Why does he know that off the top of his head? JW finds the case files of Yu-Yeon and Ju-seon. Some files are missing. Jeong-Je says some files go missing sometimes. But the situation is that only the front page is there. The rest is gone. JW discovers that Chief Nam was in charge of the murder cases back then. Chief Nam calls JW and asks why he’s at the other station. Super creepy.
JW meets with Chief Nam. JW speculated Jeong-je told him he was there looking through old files. Chief Nam tells him Jeong-je isn’t that type of person and reminds him that the town has no secrets. Chief Nam tells him to face his problems head-on. JW asks why he is letting someone he arrested as a possible murder suspect, work under him as an officer. Chief Nam gets defensive and asks JW if he transferred to their station because he was curious about the old case. Chief Nam advises JW to stay quiet because DS is a bit crazy. Chief Nam says he doesn’t even like DS lol. Chief Nam says DS is not devoted but wants to resolve his deep sorrow. We learn that DS’s dad died because he was waiting outside in the snow for Yu-Yeon to return and died. DS’s mom found the dad dead in the snow and then lost her mind. Poor family. Chief Nam tells JW to leave DS alone.
DS is outside a station and meets an old friend. DS appears to have a problem with his leg and takes medication for it. While having a meeting with this friend, it’s discovered that he went searching for some information on JW. JW was part of the Foreign Affairs Division before transferring to the substation. He was investigating undocumented female immigrants.
JW is back at his home office and labels a woman, Lee Geum Hwa, as the 6th victim. This is believed to be the woman who was just found. His dad calls him and tells him that he told him to stay quiet and do nothing. JW says he is doing nothing but his dad informs him that the Regional Investigations Unit (RIU) is poking around. Reminder: DS was an RIU inspector before his partner suspiciously died. His dad starts babbling and JW hangs up on him lol.
DS goes to visit his mom and Jin-muk is there. He asks if Min-Jeong is watching the store, and Jin-muk tells him she still hasn’t come home.
Ji-hun is eating with Jae-i and tells her he keeps seeing the skeleton. Jae-i advises him to go do something productive. DS sends him pictures of Min-Jeong partying and asks him to identify the places. DS goes to one of the clubs, gets on the mic, and tells Min-Jeong to make herself noticeable. A man starts to walk away and DS notices. The man leads him to Min-Jeong, who is in the back of the club. He claims he did nothing to her. DS threatens the man before leaving with Min-Jeong.
Back at the station, Min-Jeong is cuffed and sobering up. Because DS is helping her sober up, JW goes patroling with Ji-hun. Ji-hun shows him where the grocery store is. Ji-hun provides JW with some town knowledge. So Min-Jeong is the daughter of Jin-muk, the grocery store owner. Jin-muk was an orphan and DS’s family basically took him in. When Min-Jeong was born, her mom ran away…20 years ago. DS views Min-Jeong as a niece, which is why he is constantly looking out for her. Ji-hun described Jin-muk as a very gentle man and says that he would collapse if he knew Min-Jeong was out partying instead of at school. JW comments why DS was worried about a motherless child at the same time he was being accused of murder. Ji-hun says that’s just the type of person he is.
50 minutes:
Back at the station, DS is trying to hydrate Min-Jeong. Min-Jeong asks him not to tell her dad. He tells her to clean up his nails and go home. While the guys are watching the news of a man who was a suspect of murdering his wife, whose body was not even found, Min-Jeong sneaks out the back. On her way home, DS calls Min-Jeong and tells her that he found her keys at the station so there is no way that she is home. Min-Jeong is outside her house on the train tracks when she notices someone and smiles. In the next scene, Min-Jeong is tied down and a man is sharpening a knife.
DS goes to Jae-I’s and the gang is there, including Min-Jeong’s dad, Jin-muk. DS seems shaken up and drinks a lot. He is super weird during this time.
After dinner, he goes home and Jeong-je is sitting there asking where he’s been. Jeong-je mentions he was weird during dinner. Jeong-je says he’s going to spend the night, but it’s cold. DS says the boiler is broken so he should go home. Jeong-je says he will fix the boiler. DS says the light is broken in the basement, so he won’t see anything. Jeong-je says not even Yu-Yeon’s file…ooo…He asked DS if he had taken them. DS says he has no reason to take them. Jeong-je says okay. Before leaving Jeong-je says it wasn’t him who found out the files were missing. It was JW.
After watching Jeong-je leave, DS goes to the basement and is in a room that has all of the writing of his twin sister’s investigation.
The following day DS is about to go on a run and sees JW’s car. JW says he is trying to get used to the jurisdiction. JW asks if there are any available houses, and he is thinking about moving to the area. DS says he will be going back soon, so he doesn’t need to move to the area. DS asks what about him interests JW. Is he a suspect? JW says why he is asking around about him in Foreign Affairs. Why is he interested in him? DS notices something weird on a table. There are 10 fingers lying on the table outside the grocery store. They both see that it’s Min-Jeong’s fingers as she had diamonds on her nails. DS starts crying and hyperventilating. JW is confused by his reaction.
We go back to the scene of someone placing her fingernails outside of the grocery store…it’s Dong-sik…
Okay crazy! Already the second episode, and we get confirmation that Dong-sik is the killer? What?!
Prediction: Maybe he doesn’t know he himself is the killer. Like a psychosis?
