Her Private Life: Ep 4
Intro:
We start with Ryan yelling at the driver for almost hitting his girlfriend. The driver rolls down the window, and it’s an older man who tells him congratulations and drives away. DukMi laughs a bit and Ryan is super embarrassed. He drives DukMi to the cafe. There he sees SeonJu kissing her husband and son goodbye while DukMi rambles about how they should forget the incident. Ryan tells her that she’ll just pretend to be her boyfriend. DukMi starts laughing and Ryan tells her he’s not joking. DukMi asks if he likes her and Ryan says, “Of course not.” He tells her to consider it.
The next day DukMi and Eungi are at a bone and joint hospital. DukMi tells EunGi that she is going to consider fake dating. EunGi tells her to stop being a fangirl and date someone seriously. EunGi and DukMi visit their grandmother, who just had surgery. Remember, the parents were arguing about it when DukMi stormed out? The grandmother treats the dad like a baby and scolds the wife. DukMi’s mom tells her mother-in-law there is nothing good about being married to her son..lol. The grandmother says that he is good-looking. EunGi and DukMi are just watching the argument happen.
At the museum, reporters and fans are waiting around for DukMi. Ryan tells them she is off for the day. Ryan texts DukMi not to come to work. DukMi heads to the cafe to see SeonJu. A bunch of fans walks in to order coffee, and DukMi hides in the back. They start talking about DukMi and how they think she is a fangirl. They start discussing making her pay and killing her. DukMi is very scared by this.
DukMi heads to work even though Ryan told her not to come in. Ryan suggests that they use the reporters rather than hide from them. DukMi, a knowledgeable fangirl, tells him all the possible negative headlines they would make. DukMi tells him that fans trust other fans more than reporters. Ryan thinks back to his conversation with SiAn about the fanpage “The Road to SiAn” and how he appreciates her because she can reassure the fans when rumors happen. Ryan pulls out the blue fangirl notebook and realizes that it belongs to The Road to SiAn (i feel like I'm going to be talking about the fanpage a lot, so from here on, I'm going to call it TRTS). Ryan is outside waiting for DukMi. He follows TRTS on social media then DukMi gets a message that Ryan is not following.
15 minutes in:
Ryan and DukMi visit Mr. Ahn. Ryan gives Mr. Ahn the proposal to do an art exhibition in New York. DukMi is just as excited as Mr. Ahn.
While leaving Mr. Ahn’s, DukMi questions Ryan on what ideas he had in mind to resolve her scandal. Ryan gives her an educational chat about the fan world. He tells her about fanpage masters and their role in the fandom. Ryan tells her he has something to return to one of the fanpage masters (the blue notebook…DukMi’s notebook). He will use that as leverage to ask for a favor. DukMi says she won't agree and will wait for the rumors to die.
Later that night, fans are bombarding SiAn, who is leaving a schedule. One of the fans grabs him and asks if the rumors are true. His rude manager pushes the girl down and pushes SiAn into the car. SiAn asks him to be more gentle; she’s still a fan of his. While in the car, cabs full of fangirls start following him home. The fangirl who was pushed somehow arrives there before him and jumps in front of his van. This makes news everywhere. SeonJu (of course) sees this news while with her husband and son. Her husband says they haven't seen each other and 3 days and asks if she’s about to run off to be with DukMi…she does..lol.
SeonJu heads over to DukMi’s home, who is freaking out watching the news. DukMi starts to blame herself. SeonJu tries reassuring her by telling her she is just an obsessive fangirl. DukMi says she was actually an ordinary fangirl, and she pulls up messages from TRTS that the woman wrote. The woman was so upset that she wanted to ask SiAn for himself. SeonJu says that she shouldn't call herself a fangirl if she has a mental breakdown over rumors (very true). DukMi says she can no longer just wait for this to blow over.
25minutes in:
The museum employees are having a staff meeting. DukMi is awkwardly spaced out and doesn't even hear Ryan call her name. The meeting ends, and DukMi follows Ryan into his office. She feels it's irresponsible not to try to get the rumors to die down and give fake dating a try. Ryan says okay, and he will ask TRTS to do an interview.
DukMi tells SeonJu about Ryan’s plan, and they both start laughing, saying he knows nothing about fanpages. DukMi says she has a plan. TRTS follows Ryan back and starts messaging him. So basically, Ryan is talking to the fanpage TRTS, which is just DukMi and SeonJu in the cafe.
So we get a cute virtual world scene of TRTS and Ryan talking to each other. Ryan says they've met before in the airport when she fell on him. Ryan says he has her notebook. He also tells TRTS to DukMi is his girlfriend and asks her to post pictures of them dating. Ryan calls DukMi and tells her they need to find someone to take pictures of them. DukMi looks at SeonJu…
30 Minutes in:
The next day DukMi introduces Ryan to SeonJu. Ryan seems so confused and concerned. They go outside to start taking pictures. Their concept is a secret work couple. SeonJu says they don't look like a couple but like a boss scolding his employee. They decide to take SeonJu’s lead and move to a more secluded location. They pretend to kiss for the camera, and SeonJu gets very excited. Ryan asks DukMi if SeonJu enjoys watching DukMi with other people…you know? DukMi says she goes crazy over who she sees and tells her never to get married. Ryan asks her if she’s okay with that, and DukMi tells him that she is not okay, but SeonJu is rich, so it’s okay. This statement throws off Ryan and the photo shoot ends. Well, the photoshoot doesn't actually end…according to SeonJu. They move to a different location.
To clarify: Ryan thinks DukMi and SeonJu are dating. DukMi and SeonJu are just extreme best friends. Ryan thinks SeonJu is stringing DukMi along, but SeonJu lives the single life vicariously through DukMi.
EunGi is at his judo studio with SeonJu’s son. He questions why he isn't at home, and her son says that SeonJu told him to play with EunGi. EunGi is upset that she said “play” and asks where SeonJu is. Her son says that she went on a date.
The following location is at an amusement park. SeonJu directs them to just act like they are on a date and she will take candid paparazzi pictures. Ryan doesn't seem to like SeonJu. SeonJu directs them to be more intimate and at least hold hands. DukMi thinks back to all the times she noticed Ryan didn’t shake someone’s hand. She suggests that they just walk close to each other. SeonJu is very happy about this.
Back at the judo studio, EunGi keeps calling SeonJu, who is not answering. He asks GeonU (SeonJu’s son) for his phone. Geon-u rolls up his sleeve to show a watch that sends a sos to his mom. SeonJu gets this alert, immediately leaves Ryan and DukMi and heads to the studio. Geon-U tells her that EunGi has alerted her. EunGi asks why she came alone and wonders where DukMi is. SeonJu questions why he is asking about DukMi when he doesn't have feelings for her. EunGi gets defensive and says that DukMi should be fake dating someone to protect a celebrity’s reputation. SeonJu asks EunGi if he likes DukMi. He says he is just a responsible brother. SeonJu cuts him off and says that nonsense because they are not even related. SeonJu tells him that they are past the age to be playing house.
45 minutes in:
DukMi is on the phone with SeonJu saying she should've told them she was leaving. On their way out, Ryan observes that there are a lot of children around. DukMi informs him it's one of the most popular places for families in Seoul to be. Of course Ryan doesnt know this because he was adopted overseas. DukMi realizes this and suggest they stay awhile longer. She convinces him by saying there are probably SiAn fans around and they should collect witnesses. He gives her his arm and they head off around the park. DukMi is having alot of fun and Ryan is very stiff but eventually loosens up. So a running joke is that every time someone new meets Ryan they pronounce his name as lion. DukMi drags him over to the zoo part of the amusement park and points to the lion and says its him. She then sits him down next to a lion statue and takes a picture.
While walking around, they spot students who are sitting around drawing and painting. DukMi sits down to start drawing and tells Ryan she use to win all of the drawing contests in school. She tells him she had plans to go to art school but had to give up that dream because she broke her wrist. She said she was scared by her doctor that she would never draw again, but the situation helped her because her desire changed. She went from wanting to be famous to simply just wanting to draw. She draws a picture of a lion and gives it to Ryan who smirks.
Ryan wanders off to see children playing with bubbles. He begins to have flashbacks of his childhood before he went overseas. Sidenote: he was adopted when he was like 8 or something. He wasnt a new born adopted into an American family. He was like a walking, talking, potty-trained, roaming around Korean child. In his flashback, he goes and taps on his mother’s shoulder, who is painting and ignoring him.
DukMi sees Ryan standing there and suggests they leave. While they are about to head out, a crying child grabs Ryan’s hand and says he lost his dad. Ryan walks the child to the emergency tent in the amusement park. Thankfully the dad was there waiting for him.
On the walk home, DukMi asks Ryan if he hates holding hands. Ryan said he didn't want to let go of the child’s hand because it reminded him of when he was a child. Ryan goes on to say that it’s not that he doesn't like holding hands; he just doesn't like the moment you have to let go again. He says the warm feeling disappears and he feels alone in the world. DukMi says she likes holding hands and it gets worse when she's drunk. DukMi tells Ryan that she will let him borrow hers if he ever wants to hold hands.
When DukMi gets home, EunGi is there waiting on her. He asks why it has to be Ryan. He tells her that he could've done it for her. DukMi asks if he needs money, takes out her wallet, and hands him cash. DukMi tells him not to beat around the bush when he needs money, ask her for small amounts, and ask SeonJu for large amounts. EunGi seems upset by this interaction because of how DukMi views him…as a brother. DukMi said nobody would ever believe them as a couple and walks into her place.
Later that night, DukMi turns into TRTS and gets busy editing the pictures Ryan sent her. She starts blushing while looking over all of the photos. She sees herself smile in a mirror and gets flustered. TRTS posts some of the pictures, and Sindy (saesaeng) is alerted. The fandom becomes anti-Sindy, saying it’s her fault that everything was blown out of proportion. Sindy is still skeptical though.
Back at his home, Ryan is looking at the lion drawing when he hears someone at his door. Using a wine bottle as a weapon, he opens it, and SiAn falls in drunk with a sling and cast on his arm (from the van accident).
The following day SiAn wakes up hungover on Ryan’s couch. SiAn clearly doesn't remember how he got there. Ryan tells him that SiAn took off his clothes himself and fell asleep on the couch. SiAn looks embarrassed and grabs his clothes.
Ryan and SiAn are taking the elevator down. SiAn asks Ryan if he can keep everything a secret and calls him hyung (significant in Korean culture, if you didn’t know). Ryan responds by telling him his cast is on the wrong arm. SiAn switches it and tells him bye.
At the museum, DukMi is greeted by Director Eom. Director Eom tells her to let go of her anger from when she slapped her. Director Eom hands her an apology basket and leaves.
DukMi heads inside and chats with YooSeob and KyungA. They inform her the hate messages have stopped and wonder what happened overnight. Sindy then approaches from around the corner. DukMi stares at her…she knows exactly who Sindy is. KyungA says she’s the new intern. Sindy’s real name is HyoJin, but I will keep calling her Sindy. Sindy introduces herself to DukMi, and DukMi is just shook. Ryan is seen walking down the hall. Knowing that Sindy has probably seen pictures on the fansites of Ryan and DukMi dating, DukMi quickly confesses to YooSeob and KyungA that she is dating Ryan. Sindy has an unresponsive look on her face. KyungA and YooSeob are thrown by this news. Sindy just stares at her. DukMi runs down the hallway calling Ryan “honey.” Ryan is completely unaware of what is happening and awkwardly catches DukMi when she trips and falls into his arms.
