Beyond Evil: Ep 4
Intro:
The forensics crew is searching DS’s basement. DS is in the back of a cop car. Reporters are starting to show up at the station. They don’t know who leaked the information. They try to sneak DS into the office without reports. They cover him up with a blanket, but he ends up taking it off, and the reporters snap videos of him.
At the interrogation office, Ji-Hwa shows DS that he was caught on camera in the mountain carrying a bag. He claims he wasn’t carrying the cellphone but noodles. He goes on a tangent about eating noodles raw. He then asks if he should talk about his good looks instead. When questioned why he went to the mountain, he says he always goes hiking on his day off. Ji-Hwa vouches for him but then asks why Min-Jeong’s blood was found in his basement. He said he didn’t know. Min-Jeong always comes over. We get a flashback to DS butchering Min-Jeong as DS is talking about it jokingly. He gives reasonable doubt that luminol would’ve picked up more blood if he had murdered her in his basement. Not just a spec of blood. JS suggests that he wouldn’t have murdered her in his basement but somewhere covered in blood at all times. The next scene is at Jae-I’s butcher shop. The cops are doing a search and seizure. Jae-I is having a hard time, and we see it’s because this is not the first time the butcher shop has undergone a search and seizure.
Jae-I goes to the police station and starts throwing eggs at him. The officers come to stop her. Jae-I and JW get into an argument about life. He tells her to stop before he digs up information on her. She tells him to go ahead. She can wait to see what he finds.
20 minutes in:
While cleaning up, the Chief comes in to give JW a towel that has never been used and tells him to shower. JW says he’s on leave and will go home. The Chief mentions he never signed the papers for his leave and to hurry up and clean himself.
Outside, Ji-hun is cleaning JW’s car, and JW asks why he is like that. JW starts yelling at Ji-hun, saying he must be dumb and asking how he could think DS and Jae-I are good people. Ji-hun stops smiling for a second and says they are good people, but it’s just that JW provoked them…super crazy.
Back at the investigations office, Ji-Hwa is going over more evidence. The blood on a knife matches Han Jeong-im…I don’t know. The prosecutor takes this news to JW. It’s discovered that the butcher shop was not the location the fingers were cut off. We learn that because of JW’s tip, the prosecutor and his dad both ordered a search warrant, but since nothing was found, DS is about to walk free. The prosecutor tells JW to stay off the case and leaves. He’s up to something. Maybe just climbing up the ladder. JW does some quick research and learns that Han Jeong-Im was Jae-I’s mother who went missing. Her missing poster was also hanging in DS’s basement.
JW goes to visit DS in jail. DS said he should’ve come sooner as he is his partner. DS said he missed him. JW says he didn’t know he was the bonding type. JW then asks if bonding is his thing. If he bonds with his victims before he kills them? DS says he’s been thinking while being locked up and wonders if the woman whose phone was found was set up as a trap from JW.
Jin-muk comes to visit DS in jail. He brought him braised beef. He is concerned about his health. He says he knows Min-Jeong will come back and doesn’t want DS to get sick. Jin-muk says he knows DS would never hurt Min-Jeong. He says he has always believed he never did anything. DS tells him to eat every meal and take his meds.
At the investigation’s office, they talk about releasing DS. Jin-muk wrote a petition to have him released, but the lead prosecutor says he will not be released. Jeong-je then rushes in and says DS should be released because he was with him the night Min-Jeong went missing. Ji-Hwa asks what he thinks he’s doing. He claims he was sleeping on his couch in the living room and was worried that he didn’t hear him go out, which is why he took so long to say something. Ji-Hwa says his story is the same as 20 years ago.
40 minutes in:
The councilwoman (Jeong-Je’s mom), the deputy commissioner (JW’s dad), and Chang-Jin (the construction developer, Ji-hwa’s ex-husband) are all having dinner together. The councilwoman apologizes on behalf of her son. They all seem to know each other somehow. Chang-Jin says they are all meeting because they want something from each other. Chang-Jin wants the area redeveloped, or he’ll go bankrupt. Councilwoman wants the site redeveloped for her reelection. The deputy commissioner says the redevelopment doesn’t benefit him. Chang-Jin decides to mention how JW’s phone number was found on a dead girl’s cell phone…how does he know that? He then says it would be bad if that got leaked to the press with the deputy commissioner up for promotion and all. He asks for his cooperation and to make sure the police are cooperating. Chang-Jin then says he will put in an order and sends a text.
Jeong-Je goes to get DS from the station. He asked what took him so long to lie. Jeong-Je says he didn’t lie; they were together. JW is watching them from his car. Jeong-JE and DS go to the noodle meat broth restaurant to eat, but the granny refuses to serve him. She tells him to stop tormenting people in town. She asks why does he keep ruining their redevelopment plan. She says he has no food to serve a murder like him and throws salt at him. JW sees all of this happening and questions if DS is enjoying himself.
They head to Jae-I’s place. She prepared him tofu, common for the first meal of someone who just got out of jail in Korea. On TV in the restaurant, a segment of students badmouthing Min-Jeong, saying she was loose and partied a lot. They said they saw her on the first day of school, and that’s it. They say she’s not innocent, and they are wasting the taxpayer’s money by looking for her. Could this be the work of JW’s dad and prosecutor? DS starts laughing and freaks everybody out…including me. JW is still watching.
JW goes to DS’s basement. DS is down there crying and telling Min-Jeong he is sorry. JW walks in, passes him, goes to the little side door, and notices that he put all the missing women’s posters back up. He had taken them down when he was bleaching the place, so the police didn’t see it. JW then points a gun, and DS… talk about escalation. JW brings up his old partner, who was rumored to have been killed by DS. DS starts getting a pain in his leg. JW asks why DS is sorry. DS asks JW if he is recording on his phone. JW then pulls out his phone, which is recording, and places it on the table. DS then says, doesn’t he know a confession under duress won’t hold up in court. JW says he’s not doing anything…lol he’s pointing a gun at him. DS then mentions the security camera, to which JW replies that he will get rid of it. DS goes on a rampage about all of the missing women. DS says he can never arrest him. He then says it looks like JW has never shot anyone before. He then laughs, thanks JW, then walks away. JW has a panic attack and runs out of the basement. He has a flashback to all his conversations with DS as he walks back to his car.
Ji-Hwa visits Ji-hun and asks if he is the one who leaked information about the arrest. Ji-hun says that he did it. He wanted to reveal Dong-sik as the suspect. We see a flashback to Ji-hun visiting Min-Jeong that night…did he kill her?
OMG! We see JW putting on a press conference saying Min-Jeong is not the only victim but the 7th victim. He announces that there is a serial murder case. OMG he’s so annoying.
JW goes back to visit DS in his basement. He asks DS who he is covering up.
My prediction: Jeong-Je is the killer. He’s weird. I think he is trying to be Dong-Sik’s alibi, but DS is his alibi. I also believe he has recruited Ji-hun, and I think they are working together.
